Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot including angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the main group to begin their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to kill the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as important members in the powerful family could enable the party access places they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to head to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Questers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can expect finding out which players will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
